The idea for the Request For Proposal (RFP) Cut & Paste application came from
my Technical Team Leader at the time. Our group would often have to put together an
RFP for the larger clients. They are extremely time consuming and end up being
hundreds of pages long.
After doing a few of these, it's easy to see that most of the questions are very similar
to previous questions. The problem is that the questions were all assigned to different
people and it becomes very hard to collaborate all of the answers.
So, we decided to create a database and store the questions and answer in the database for
future RFPs. It worked pretty well using simple text searches, but it was pretty time
consuming to actually enter and maintain the data from previous RFPs. In the end, I believe
we had most of the technical questions in the system, but I don't believe the others
used the system much.
I would have liked to incorporate the Context/Intermedia database option for more sophisticated text
searches, but that required more time than I was able to spare.
